La Maison des Pruniers - a three bedroom perigordine-style house set in the heart of the Dordogne

Maison des Pruniers is a modern open-plan detached house built in 2007 to the local Perigordine style. Nestled in plum orchards alongside the fourth fairway of a beautiful undulating 27 hole golf course, it is set in the grounds of the historic Château des Vigiers.

The house comfortably sleeps six. On the ground floor are two double bedrooms with ensuite shower rooms. Both have the option of double or twin beds and a cot is available. One opens out on the terrace overlooking the pool.

Upstairs the master bedroom provides stunning views of the golf course from the balcony. It is fitted with air conditioning and has a large ensuite bathroom with separate shower, bath and double basins.

The living areas are open-plan with a well equipped kitchen and dining area. There is a large vaulted sitting room with a mezzanine, sofa-bed and relaxation area above.

For the winter months there is underfloor heating throughout, complimented by a wood burning stove.

Outside is a private heated swimming pool with child-safe cover.

The house has broadband internet access, a television and sound system.

Golf, a driving range, beginner's academy course, tennis, cycling and billiards / snooker are available on site, as is access to the hotel spa, pool and gymnasium. The 'Pro shop' or château reception can advise on the use of these facilities.

The setting

La Maison des Prunier is located on the Château des Vigiers estate.

Built in around 1597, it was not until 1992 that restoration work was began to create the wonderful place in which you can relax and enjoy golf, fine wine and great local cuisine in one of two restaurants on site; Les Fresques has a Michelin star and a number of different menus.

The 27 hole Donald Steel designed golf course is rated as one of the top ten best in Aquitaine and guests benefit from reduced green fees.

The driving range, beginner's academy course, tennis, cycling, billiards and snooker are available on site, as is access to the hotel spa, pool and gymnasium. Château staff can advise on the use of these facilities.

Exploring the local area

Six miles to the north-west is Sainte-Foy-la-Grande, one of several historic towns in the area, the largest of which is the ancient river port of Bergerac. There are markets in easy reach every day of the week.

Local vineyards are always eager to for you to sample their wines and restaurants. Twenty miles to the west is Saint-Émilion, and a little further away Médoc. Both are among the most famous wine producing areas in the world.

Kayaking, canoeing or paddle boarding on the Dordogne and scenic walking routes are all within easy reach. The ancient cave paintings at Lascaux and the upper reaches of the Dordogne are also well worth exploring. Bordeaux, 40 miles to the west can be reached by car or train.

Access is straightforward. It is possible to fly from one of several UK regional airports to Bergerac Dordogne Périgord; approximately 25 minutes by car. Bordeaux–Mérignac Airport is around an hour’s drive.
